That singing of two lines in “Bhakt Prahlad” did a lot of good
for Geetaji. She kept herself busy singing in several movies that year (1946). But her biggest breakthrough was yet to
come and fortunately for Geetaji and music lovers it didn’t take long.
The two lines Geetaji sang, with a voice full of vivacity and spontaneity, did not go unnoticed on other music directors.
Soon she had assignments started pouring in. Apart from “Bhakt Prahlad” she worked in at least six other films during
that year. She did a full solo in the movie “Kashmir Ki Kali” for music directors Kavita Devi and Master Vithal.
Hanuman Prasadji gave Geetaji a chance to sing a full solo for another movie he provided music for, called “Rasili”.
Music director pair J. Abhyankar and Nagesh Rao had Geeta sing a solo for the movie “Circus King”. She also sang a solo
song in “Pujya Gandhiji”. But one of the bigger name music directors she was able to sing the same year was Anil Biswas.
Even though Biswasji went with Lataji in later years, at least in the movie “Milan” he had Geetaji sing two solos.
S.N. Tripathi, another music director who will employ Geetaji in several of his movies in subsequent years, had her
sing a duet in “Manasarovar”.
Geetaji’s singing history for films in 1946, her debut year, is summarized in the following table. Please note that this
