Anilda
has been a veteran composer since the early forties
and gave timeless music for many films including the
blockbuster Kismat starring Ashok Kumar. He composed
excellent melodies for Lata ji and Talat sahab. Some
of his songs were sung by his favorite singer and wife
Meena Kapoor ji. Geeta Dutt has sung very few songs
with this veteran music director, but whatever she has
sung for him represents the very best of hindi film
music. Unfortunately as most of these songs are very
rare, the combo is rarely discussed in the way her songs
with S D Burman, O P Nayyar or Hemant Kumar.
She sang for him as early as 1946 (the year she made
debut with songs from Bhakta Pralhad and Circus Kings)
for the film Milan. The next year, there is a free-flowing
happy duet of Geeta “Yeh haseenon ke mele albele” with
Shamshad Beghum in Bhookh (1947). There were two sad
solos of her in this film, "Aankh mein kyon ashq" and
"Is jag mein gareebon ka nahin koi thikana". And then
melody queen Lata ji arrived and Anilda dedicated most
of his songs from the late forties to early fifties
to Lata ji (and some to his wife Meena Kapoor). Six
years later, we have Geeta Dutt singing "Aa sapne tujhe
bulaaye aa jaa". It’s a breezy song sung so |
