The Government of India , as a part of their series to celebrate 100 years of Indian Cinema, releases a stamp on legendary singer Geeta Dutt ji. Without any group/person canvassing for her name and she being out of the limelight for more than 40 years, it truly shows her talent and popularity that the GOI issued a stamp in her name.

Classical songs with a touch of feelings..

Indian film and non-film music has a great base in the heritage of the Indian classical music. A saying in Sanskrit defines “Raaga” as “Ranjayati Iti Raagah”… It means, whatever “Colours Up” our mind is a “Raaga”. A Maestro may define “Raaga” in assorted ways giving importance to the grammar of Indian music but this is perhaps the best definition of “Raaga” for an amateur.

Our dear friend Rajesh Kumar Singh ji shared this extremely rare photo of composer Mohd Shafi sahab rehearsing/recording a song with Geeta Dutt (nee Roy) ji for Janta Films ” Hoore – e – Haramm ). This information is copied from the text from Filmfare magazine dated Sept 17, 1954 !! In all these years of our pursuit of her songs, we never knew that Geeta ji did sing a song for the talented Shafi sahab.
