Naashad
is either completely unknown to music fans or is confused
with the more famous MD with a similar name, i.e. Naushad
Ali. The fact is that he has quite a few gems to his
credit. He deserves to be remembered for them. He may
not have been very prolific; but he composed wonderful
songs. As per some un-confirmed information he married
the singer Premlata, who has sung 'Chup chup khade ho'
with Lata Mangeshkar for the film Badi Behen. Some of
the films for which he gave music are Naghma, Baradari,
Zindagi ya Toofan, Payal, Toote Tare and Pyar Ki Dastan.
He left India for Pakistan in early 1960s along with
lyricist Nakhshab Jarchavi (who penned the lyrics of
the evergreen song "Aayega aanewala" sung by Lata Mangeshkar
for the film Mahal) and composed music for some 50 odd
films in Pakistan.
Geeta Dutt was one of the topmost singers in late forties
and has sung as many as six solo songs for him for the
film Jeene Do (1948). None of them are easily available
on any of the CD/Cassette compilations. She also sang
two lovely duets with Mukesh the same year for the film
Toote Taare (1948). “Raja mohe le chal tu dilli ki sair
ko” and “Rehate ho ab toh har ghadi meri nazar ke samne”
